Indonesia is free of plastic waste pollution through empowering women
Human is the main subject of polluting the environment, many human’s activities potentially damage the future environment. It is closely related to the ongoing increase in population data. As quoted from JPNN.com, the amount of Indonesia population along this 2020 is 268.583.016 people. This number shows increasing 0.77% from the last year with the amount of men is 135.821.768 and women is 132.761.248. Besides, there is the data that quoted from ceicdata.com, Indonesia’s consumption rate in June 2020 is 21.320 USD and the rate is up from before.
The more people and increased consumption, there will surely be a positive and negative impact on Indonesia. The positive effect that we can feel is that economic growth be in a better direction as income increases. Beside that, we must be prepared to accept significant negative effects, which one of those is environmental health could be threatened by increased population and increased consumption levels. It would be very complex if it isn't accompanied by serious management and countermeasures. Indonesia is the second largest publicly-listed mining company, this absolutely become a warning to Indonesia to optimize the work and effort that needed to tackle crucial problems and possible impacts in the future.
It is well known that the biggest contributor of garbage is the household garbage. Household garbage is the result of domestic activities. Women play an important role in the management of the household, and likely tomorrow's garbage heap is heavily influenced by women's role as household manager. Therefore, many research has been done to optimize the role of women in waste management. Intended management includes re-management or restriction of plastic use.
Quoted from journal student.uny.ac.id in a study entitled "Pemberdayaan Perempuan Melalui Pengelolaan Sampah Plastik”, a study case in Sidorejo of Purworejo district stated that woman's empowerment of plastic garbage in the Sidorejo village has a positive effect on them: improving the income of the family, having free time for the mothers, and becoming more independent and making the environment be cleaner. Therefore, woman’s empowerment is one of the most effective subjects on reducing future trash cans.
The fact is many food and beverage products are covered by plastic. Quoted from bkpp.demakkab.go.id, that the association of aromatic olefin and Indonesian plastic (INAPLAS) industry has recorded that there are 65% of plastic consumptions that is still dominated by plastic packaging. And about 60% is absorbed by the FnB industry. If we look at the effects of plastic on the environment and public health, the effect of it is very harmful to the environment of the present and future, the further effects of it are detrimental to people's health, resulting in reducing quality of life that could prevent the potential of human resources from fully competing in the international realm and the consequent loss of human resources could potentially hinder national development.
Self Improvement
