    Sorting, Management, and Restorating: A Simple Concepts to Maintain



    Indonesia is one of the countries having the intensity of rainfall is high, so as to cause several areas potentially experienced disasters flood. Like last week, West Java Province of Garut Regency was flooded with heavy rains that more than 10 villages in 3 sub-districts were hit by flash floods. This matter certainly made the residents feel even more devastated. In addition to the Covid-19 outbreak not over, all residents of Garut Regency must be willing to leave their belongings in their house and then evacuate with residents in the crowded flood alert post. Actually, there are 3 big rivers that cannot fill the tremendous flow water in the event of rain. So that the swift flow of rain water is added to the overflow the air from 3 large rivers, making the frequency of water that blankets the residential areas higher. The three rivers are the Cikaso River, Cibera River and the River Cipalebuh. Even worse, after the flood, local residents have to see the view of puddles and piles of plastic waste. It made the settlement look even more slum.


    In addition, plastic waste also accumulates around the river upstream causing the flow of river water to become clogged. This is one of the factors that caused the flooding in Garut Regency. Therefore, from this event we must equally understand the importance of caring for the environment so that the ecosystems around us can be preserved. Because, in an ecosystem, there are certainly various organisms that interact with each other with the environment.


    This is done so that these organisms can survive. Without stopping there, the existence of organisms also contributes to human life.Examples such as in the process of photosynthesis and soil fertility.     Let's us start by first understanding the word sorting, sorting is a process of separation against plastic waste.Thus, when sorting we will group the types of plastic waste. As we know together, that plastic waste consists of different types. In general, plastic products circulating in the society are formed from polymer molecules such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), high density polyethylene (HDPE), low density polyethylene (LDPE), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polystyrene (PS), microbeads, and polycarbonate.

 

    Now, let's first find out in advance the various plastic wastes that are in your home. In fact, the main materials in the manufacture of plastics are taken from different types of polymer molecules.  


   First

    is a type of polymer such as Polyethylene Terephthalate usually found in bottled products such as aqua bottles, soy sauce bottles, and fizzy drinks bottles. This type of waste does not greatly harm the ecosystem because of the thin texture of the bottle and easy to crush. However, this type of waste harms your body if used repeatedly such as to replenish drinking water in the same packaging. This can be dangerous for your organs because it can trigger cancer. Why is that so? Because, when you enter water it is most likely able to dissolve polymer molecules in considerable quantities even if it is invisible to the eye. In addition, it can also cause a build-up of bacteria in the bottle, because the bottle has been used several times.


    Second

    is a type of High Density Polyethylene Polymer, uusually found in products such as plastic bags, detergent bottles, and bathroom cleaning fluid bottles containing liquids, powders, or blobs such as jellies. For sorting, do the grouping of anything that goes into bottles filled with viscous liquid, jelly blobs, and any powder. As for plastic bags separate between white and black, because generally black plastic bags creed contains carcinogens that adversely affect public health.

    This we can feel through the sense of smell. Like the first time you open a black crackle, you will definitely smell a strong chemical odor, right? Because, black crackle has been recycled several times. For the decomposition process, this waste is classified into intermediate levels. That depends on how thick the plastic is and what is the molecular density of the polymer? Like a plastic bag that says "this plastic will self-destruct", this indicates that the plastic is biodegradable.

           

Third

    is Polyvinyl Chloride, , a polymer molecule found in electrical wires. Plastic products like this have a solid texture and are hard enough, so it is classified into a type of plastic that is difficult to decompose. Furthermore, it is a type of polypropylene plastic that is usually found in straws.Then the latter is a type of polystyrene polymer that is usually found in styrofoam feeding places.This type of material can only be disposable and should not be used many times because it contains harmful chemicals such as benzene.The substance is also carcinogenic and can cause cancer.

    Fourth

    is a type of Low Density Polyethylene , usually found in bread wrappers and other snacks. This type of plastic waste has another content, namely from synthetic dyes used to beautify packaging design. In addition, as for some products that use special dyes that harm the environment. Imagine if the dye dissolved with river water that became one of the societies water sources. Then it will greatly endanger the life of organisms in the river.


    Next, when you know the types of plastic waste, you must to group all based on the level of danger and the difficult level of decomposing waste. So the grouping is divided into: waste is very dangerous with very long decomposed levels such as styrofoam, detergent bottles, and electrical wires. Furthermore, that belongs to waste with a degree of danger and difficulty decomposing moderately, such as plastic bags, snack packs, scrub or skin care bottles, and shampoo packaging.There is also waste that belongs to the low category of straws and other bottles.

 



            So, how to manage it? Management is one of the things that should not be forgotten.Before you completely dispose of this waste, pay attention to the cleanliness of the wastes. Are there still remnants of liquid, or even the remains of detergents stuck in the packaging? First, for bottles such as detergent marks and facial cleansing liquids should first clean the bottles. Cut the bottle in half, remove all the remaining liquid in it and discard the liquid into the suction tank. It is worth noting, that a good house should have a suction tank.


    Meanwhile, crackers, straws, and snack wrappers can be processed by rolling up plastic waste and then putting it directly into an aqua bottle so that it is ecobric. After all the plastic has filled the bottle, and you've collected enough ecobricks, you can make a chair or a table. However, if you don't have the spare time to make an ecobrick chair or table, you can hand over an ecobrick bottle to the collector or craftsman.

 

    As for plastic bags, straws, and snack packs can be processed by rolling up plastic waste and then directly put it in an aqua bottle to be used as ecobrik. When the whole plastic is packed with bottles and the ecobrik collected quite a lot, you can make a seat or a table. However, if you do not have free time to make ecobrick chairs or tables, you can hand over bottles of ecobrick to a steamer or craftsman.


Next, take the inside wire which is a conductor. Then hand it over cable wire to drop zone managers in your area. It is very dangerous for your around ecosystem. Recovery is an activity carried out to restore the situation polluted environmental ecosystem. The simple way that can be taken is by planting plants to absorb wastewater around ditches or in rivers. As planting water hyacinth in rivers is very effective in purifying water so that organisms those who live in the river have a great chance of surviving. 


    The is because water hyacinth can filter out the microbeads and plastic material others that can damage the ecosystem. Surely, these activities must be carried out with working together to invite the society. As for the next way you can carried out in the context of environmental restoration, namely by making processing equipment waste made from gravel and coconut husk. We know that after the occurrence of environmental ecosystem pollution can certainly cause a clean water crisis. To prevent clean water crisis due to contamination of microbeads or other polymers, then apply this simple method.

 

            Recovery methods with ingredients are easy to find and are not costly. You only need to prepare gravel, coconut husk, charcoal, palm fibers, and a sponge for filter particles such as microbeads, or detergent waste from the activity results wash. That way, when you wash your face, brush your teeth, or wash the container skin care before being disposed of, water is not immediately disposed of into a ditch but is filtered in advance by filter waste bottles.
